Flowers are the inherent part of my life, my personality. There are 5 flowers that are particularly special to me. Oleander of Spain, bougainvillea of Portugal, bell of Gambia, yucca flower of the USA and rose of Poland, they are the blossoms of the countries that present as very meaningful to my soul, because of the memories, connections, and above all the people of these states.

Berthe Morisot's painting share this appreciation of flowers.Berthe Morisot (1841-1895) was a French impressionist painter who as a female artist in the 19th century was so bravely facing gender constraints. I admire her aesthetic, sense of shapes and expression of the natural environment, but above all I adore her strength and persistence in pursuing her passion for art despite gender challenges.

“Le jardin à Bougival”, Berthe Morisot
1884, oil on canvas, 73 x 92 cm
I desired the "Ethereal Flower" collection to pay tribute to the exceptional Berthe Morisot. It expresses the still so often underestimated splendor, ability, strength of women worldwide. Each construction of all garments reflects the shapes of one particular blossom from my 5 meaningful, inspirational flowers. Having limited resources at that time, I sew the silhouettes from untreated cotton muslin. The material allowed me to focus on the floral construction and effective depiction of the flowers' naturalness.
